Basic white bread in Bread maker, review Panasonic SD-P104

white bread panasonic-SD-P104Basic white bread in Bread maker with review (Panasonic SD P104) pros, cons. Detailed video and pictures.

I bought bread maker last month and when I posted photos in my stories, many of you asked about my views and asked to share recipe too. This recipe is what I follow in my bread maker. You can try the same in traditional way too, but this is customized for machine process where it undergoes a good amount of high speed kneading, given several hours of resting time. So you may want to put some effort and spend time to get similar results.

The bread maker is really helpful if you consume bread in regular basis. You can get a homemade bread just by dumping all ingredients, a push of button. No need to worry about the additives and preservatives that you kept worrying with store bought bread. white-bread-in-bread-machin

I am sharing this post just to help who are in dilemma to buy or not a bread maker. I am based in Singapore and this model is available here. If you are in other part of the world, try to find similar ones reading reviews that are available in the internet. This post can help you to get an idea about bread maker. And if you are buying go for fully automatic bread maker.

If you are in India, the Panasonic bread maker is not available there as of now.

What made me buy bread maker machine:

Last two years both myself and Vj started thinking how the store bought bread is soft, white and stays good for long time. I even have discussed with friends how unreal they stay as such and dream soft the store bought bread are.

Aj, Somehow he consumes bread in every weekday. He loves it as it is convenient for him to have it as quick bite in recess, after meal snack (yeah, after meals, we snack!😁) So it had me worrying to give him store bought bread even though I swap white bread with mutli grain bread. After thinking for a while finally bought this bread maker.

After almost a month of usage, I am finally getting a hold of it. I am trying to explore various options of adding healthy ingredients to the bread. Already tried 50 50 maida and atta (wheat flour, all purpose flour) bread and convinced with the results. Also started sneaking a little of ground flax in it. For sandwiches, you might not even know the difference.

So here’s basic white bread recipe in bread maker.

Basic white bread recipe in fully automatic bread maker (Panasonic bread machine) with detailed video, pros & cons.
Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Knead, rest, rise (by machine) 4 hours
Total Time 4 hours 22 minutes
Servings 6 slices

Equipments (Amazon Affiliate links)

  • Panasonic Bread maker SD P104
Cup measurements

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All purpose flour Plain flour/ maida
  • 1 tsp Instant yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Butter 15 gms
  • 100 ml milk
  • 100 ml water

Instructions

  • Gather all the ingredients needed. Add milk, water, butter, sugar and salt to the bread pan.
  • Top with flour and put the pan inside bread machine. Add yeast to yeast dispenser.
  • Select menu 3 for baking white bread, choose crust colour light or medium and press start button.
  • You can alternatively use timer option if you want hot bread ready in the morning. Before bed, just do the same steps as 1, 2, 3 and press timer button, set the time you want the bread to be ready (example : 6:30 am) and press start. It will be maintained in rest mode before starting it's process according to it's scheduled time.
  • Once finished, gives a feeble beep tone to indicate the end of process. Press end button, switch off the machine. Take out immediately from the machine (use oven gloves), loosen up the sides (not needed necessarily) and invert the pan to a counter top. Wait to become warm, slice using a bread knife.

Storage

  • I use a clean kitchen towel and wrap loosely the bread when it is hot/ warm. Place over wire rack for cooling. Once cooled, I slice (you can slice when it is warm enough to handle itself) and store in a container. Stays good for 3 days.

Notes

  • Suggest you to buy bread knife as it is must for getting the bread sliced easily. Normal knife gives you hard time.
  • Bread is soft when taken out. Next day you might see it slightly getting dense.
  • After 3 days it might get spoiled.

Enjoy the favorite way of yours, bread butter jam, toast, sandwiches, French toast…

Pros

  • Saves your time & energy, no kneading proofing and multiple raises.
  • No mess. Just one bread pan with blade to clean.
  • Any of your family member can do it. Even if they are not skilled in baking/ cooking.
  • You know what goes in.
  • Options to explore healthy ingredients
  • Multiple functions – bread, pizza dough, bread dough, other dough maker, chocolate, jam, cake.
I personally have prepared pizza dough and love the texture of it.

Cons

  • Bread size, this particular model can just bake a half loaf – 6 slices.
  • Shape of the bread is bit different from usual bread from bakery, it looks like vertical version.
  • Main thing which is kind of bothers me is the the blade hole in bread loaf. Last few slices have it
  • Space – It is like a tall version (narrow) of electric cooker.
  • Non stick coated tin.
  • 2-3 days shelf life.
  • Cost

bread maker cons

Model pros

  • Fully automatic
  • Timer function
  • Nut/ raisin, yeast dispenser
  • Value for money comparative to other models available in Singapore
  • Spare parts available for replacement

    Hi Raks,

I have bought Panasonic SD-p2001’and results are disaster when I followed the recipe provided in the booklet. I used maida as I would like to avoid additives. This model has 1.5lbs bread. Can you tell me if you use 500gm of maida to make 1 lbs bread. The above recipe says 2 cups flour.

The standard recipe shared by the manufacturer calls out for half the flour and half the water added. How big is your load size? Wondering what proportion should I use when baking in Panasonic sd-p2001.

Btw my bread rises and then collapses although I am using yeast as mentioned in the booklet. Would you also be able to help for what to do?

    Appreciate your help!

I had no kitchen scale initially. So I roughly converted to cup measurements with an online converter and made the bread. Now I bought one and I follow the recipe in their booklet to T and it turns out perfect. This model I am holding has capacity of 1 lb/ 1 pound.
I suggest you to follow the recipe given in their manual itself. Have you checked the troubleshooting tips given in the manual for possible things which go wrong with your bread?
I will suggest few points to check:
-Are you choosing the appropriate menu for your bread?
-Are you using the right yeast variety and right amount? – I use Bake King Instant yeast.
-Use the spoon provided with the machine as well as use the cup provided with the machine for measuring liquid.
-Instead of using milk powder (totally avoid it), try adding milk and see (Appropriate milk substitute measurements are given in manual recipe itself)
-Use cold water if your room temperature is above 28 deg C

Hope this helps you a bit. Let me know how it worked for you.

    Hi Raks,

Can you tell me what is the measurement of 1 cup when you say 2 cup flour? Is it 250gm?

    Thanks

Thanks for your reply, I am using the right menu option and not sure if the flour to water proportion is appropriate. The manual says 325gm flour with 240ml of water. After the dough is kneaded it still looks very watery to me – more like thick cake batter than the cake dough

Yes, 250 gm as it is called in my manual. My 1 cup holds 240 ml of liquid. If you want the gram equivalent of flour, just use an online converter to find out the weight.

I see. So 500gm Maida with 200ml of water plus milk is the proportion for 1lbs bread.

Thanks dear, I will adjust the same for 1.5lbs bread.

Sounds like I am using too much water

Got the Panasonic ZB2502 as a Xmas gift and have loved it so far. Still trying to get the right flour (other than Maida). Thank you, Raks. Would love to get the fruit bread recipe. The one in the recipe booklet is great, but still not like the ones available in the Indian stores
