Easy Picnic food ideas
I still remember those childhood picnic season - the trademark baskets filled with dry snacks, ladoo, tea/ coffee in flask, Rasna, the towels, blankets spread on the grass and sunlight through the trees. Sitting together, sharing everything felt so special. Thinking of it now makes me happy and nostalgic. I want to share with you all the ideas one could use without breaking your head if yourself or you kid needs Picnic food ideas.
Top tips
1 . Avoid soggy disasters
Some Indian foods get mushy when packed hot. Let things cool before packing. Especially pakoras, sandwiches.
2. Do last-minute assembly for wet foods
Pack all components separately and mix on-site. Example, Bhel, dahi-based items, salads.
3. Prefer dry, sturdy foods
Anything semi-dry/ dry travels best: Parathas, tikkis, rolls, roasted snacks.
4. Choose dishes that taste good cold
Dhokla, idli + podi, variety rice, thepla
5. Oil is your friend for freshness
Podi idli, stuffed paratha fillings, helps keep things without spoiling and getting dry.
6. Pack chutneys wisely
Go for dry chutney powders, thick chutneys.
7. Use foil & airtight boxes
Food like parathas stay soft in foil. Hot pots work for rotis/ naan, especially if you must keep them warm. Consider good old banana leaf or mantharai leaf packing for eco friendly choices.
