Deepavali breakfast menu, Diwali breakfast recipes

Updated on October 27, 2021 by Raks Anand 19 Comments

A traditional Diwali breakfast in south Indian Tamil home, consists of Idli, chutney or podi along with special sweets, snacks prepared for the festival as well as the vadai, suzhiyan and adhirasam.

    Deepavali breakfast menu

Wishing all my friends, readers a very Happy and Prosperous Diwali 🙂
Deepavali for me is the most favorite festival.

Apart from the sweets and savories we make for this festival, there are some regular stuffs that are must in Deepavali breakfast menu.

Those are Idli, ulundhu vadai, adhirasam, and suzhiyan for breakfast. Usually these are offered to God in first place along with the sweets and savories that are prepared specially for the festival (Kept without tasting).

So this is our tradition to follow on Deepavali day for breakfast.

    Idli, vadai, chutney, adhirasam, suzhiyan
A typical Diwali breakfast at our home.

Also seen - Ribbon pakoda and gulab Jamun.

Here are some Diwali breakfast over years I shared in my Social media:

    1. Idli

Idli is a staple breakfast made on Diwali day. My mom and FIL says in their childhood, only for Diwali breakfast they make idli. So it's a kind of special menu those days.

But the tradition still follows that it is a must in out breakfast menu.

Ulundu vadai is also one of the must in our Deepavali breakfast. We make it without onion just like any other festival days.

    3. Chutney

Usually any chutney without onion or garlic is fine, so there comes classic coconut chutney to rescue. Easy too as we know what to do.

Alternately, folks at home also approve using idli podi.
