Mini idli tadka | Thalippu idli recipe

July 6, 2015 by Raks Anand 3 Comments /

Mini-idli-tadka-1
Mini idli tadka is one easy snack for kids who come back from school hungry. You can make it with less effort, still kids will love to have it. It had minimum simple ingredients, yet burst of flavors. When we were coming back from B’lore to Chennai, we stopped at a restaurant and my Co-sis had this after ordering from their menu. I tasted it and it was too simple and delicious.

One could easily figure out the ingredients in it and I thought I should try this, as I am a big fan of idli upma. Some kids won’t like idli upma, so you can try this way for them. The only main thing to be followed in making this idli tadka is to make sure the idli is softest and you use small onions for best flavour.

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Snack
Prep Time: 10 mins    |  Cook time: 20 mins     |  Serves: 1

Ingredients

Refer this post for idli dosa batter

Mini idli – 18

Small onion – 12

Salt – a pinch

To temper

Oil – 1 tbsp

Mustard – 3/4 tsp

Urad dal – 1 tsp

Red chilli – 2

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Method

  1. In a pan, heat oil, temper with the items given under ‘To temper’ table. Followed by finely chopped onion. Fry until transparent in medium flame. 1-tadka
  2. Add a pinch of salt and cooked mini idlies and toss well. 2-toss

Notes

    • You can add a pinch of asafoetida while tempering.
    • You can use coconut oil for tempering.
    • Make sure to use fresh idli dosa batter. Idli should be soft and moist, then only this dish will be nice.

Goes well with coconut chutney and sambar. Serve hot!

Simple. Super cool… While watching the video there were some flashes (photo flash) in between. If idly has senses then it would hv feel a heroic effect in its mind. Ha ha…
