Neer mor is spiced buttermilk, south Indian style, perfect summer drink to beat the heat. In most natural way and effective way, keep yourself hydrated!

Additionally, neer more/ neer mor (spiced buttermilk) is a perfect body cooling drink for summer. On Rama navami as well as Tamizh new year we offer this and panagam. Since both the festivals falls over the summer month (Chithirai), we make this and offer to God and distribute to others too.
In MIL side, we don't celebrate Rama Navami, but mom always does. So here is the way I do neer mor (south Indian way of making spiced buttermilk). I am not sure if we temper it if we are offering to God, still I made this way.
As the name indicates, (Neer means water in Tamil) buttermilk is supposed to be watery. So be generous in adding water as needed. Mom makes best flavorful neer mor among everyone I know. She makes it and carries to all her travel trips. It will be such a treat while we travel in hot humid weather. Keeps us hydrated too effortlessly.

Notes
- If the buttermilk is not that sour and you need to make a lot, then you can squeeze lemon. Or even if you like the flavor, you can.
- Add a pinch of asafoetida raw and rest while tempering, both together gives a great flavor.
- Instead of chopping finely, you can also try grinding the chilly, ginger and few curry leaves to add it in the buttermilk.
- At the time of serving, I strain and drink, still the flavor will be there.
- You can use hand blender with whisk too.
- Make sure you beat/ whisk the buttermilk well coz, the frothy top adds a lot of flavor 🙂
