    • 📸Oats pongal Method:

Pongal and oats makes a good combo as both are meant to be mushy. Once when I was talking to my brother, he was making fun of how to kill a recipe with oats. Make deep fried snack with it, make pongal and loading it with oodles of ghee and such funny combos.

But I won't say making oats pongal with ghee is a bad idea. As long as the ghee amount is with in the serving size, I would say we are saving some bloating that happens after having pongal made with rice. This gives you more nutrition comparatively to white rice as well. Not to mention specially about the fiber.

    Inspiration

One day saw a famous Indian oats brand advertisement in the magazine about this and got tempted. Made instantly and had for lunch. You can make this as Oats khichdi too if you add onion, tomato and masala powders to this.

    💭 Top tip

    • Please not you need cooked moong dal for this recipe ready.
    • Always have it hot.
    • Add an extra teaspoon of melted ghee over the hot oats pongal just while serving for best flavor.

    📖 Variations

The consistency can be varied as per self preference. Also adding some vegetables will make it more nutritious.

Soak the moong dal and pressure cook everything together directly for easier version.

    🥘Serving suggestions

I make this for lunch and have it with lunch sambar for a filling meal… If you have chutney also for side dish, then you will never complain anything, just make it, eat hot, it's really good!

    🥗Goes well with

    • Coconut chutney
    • Sambar
    • Onion tomato Gothsu

Thanks a lot Raji. First I tried your Jangiri and it came out so well. Then today I tried Oats pongal. It was awesome.

One change... I cooked Oats, moongdal, (a portion of jeera, ginger and pepper) in the Pressure cooker. The aroma from all the spices percolated into the pongal and it was really good. I used the remaining portion of the spices for tempering. I also added very little cashew.

Havenot tried in pressure cooker before. Do you mean all together - oats, dal ? Together may not be a good idea. First season and cook the moong dal, open the cooker and add oats and cook again. That could help.
