Tomato gotsu recipe | Easy side dish for idli dosa

Tomato gotsu is a simple side dish for idli dosa without any spice powders. With dal, it makes a mild accompaniment.

Tomato gotsu goes well with idli especially if it's not tangy as this is slightly tangy.

Check out my easy pongal gotsu and Chidambaram brinjal gothsu in my website.

    Ingredients

Here are the simple ingredients needed for this recipe.

Ingredients for tomato gotsu with moong dal
    Ingredients
    • Moong dal - Pasi paruppu as we call it in Tamil is easy to cook (Hulled, split green moong bean) . Actually those days mom simmers it over stove top itself, it's that quick. But these days, quality differs, so I have chosen to pressure cook.
    • Onion
    • Tomato - The star ingredient of this recipe. According to the variety, we have to balance the spice. Some are tangy, some are sweet. Mine is a good balance of both.
    • Green chilli - The only spice factor in this recipe, but also adds a lot of flavor.

See ingredients list for full list and exact quantities.

    Tomato gotsu or gosthu?

We call it gosthu only at home but it is widely known as gotsu. Actually this style of making without any spice powder and only green chilli is a staple family style of cooking.

Do not under estimate by simplicity of this recipe ingredients. It is packed with flavors - Onion, green chilli and moong dal makes a wonderful combo of flavors.

No it is not dal! You may thin it is similar to dal, but it is not at all!

Dal is majorly dal in mashed and creamy texture and this is majorly tomato, onion, green chilli and only little dal and has it's texture retained. It is totally different!

    Instructions

    1. Wash and pressure cook moong dal with a cup of water firstly.
