Ingredients
Wheat rava – 1/2 cup
Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
Water – 1 & 1/2 cup
Salt – As needed
To Temper
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Chana dal – 2 tsp
Red chilli – 1
Ginger, chopped – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – A pinch
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
Water – 1 & 1/2 cup
Salt – As needed
To Temper
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Chana dal – 2 tsp
Red chilli – 1
Ginger, chopped – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – A pinch
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Method
- Give the wheat rava few pulses in a mixer, without powdering it too much. Heat a kadai with oil. Temper with the items given under ‘To temper’ table.
- Add water and salt, bring to boil. Add wheat rava and coconut.
- Mix well and cook covered in medium flame for 5-8 mins. Mix in between to avoid burning.
- Once all the water absorbed and almost cooked, transfer to a plate. Once warm to handle, shape it to balls. Grease your hands with sesame oil or coconut oil each time.
- Arrange in a greased idli plate and steam for 5-8 minutes.
Notes
- Do not use more oil as it would make it difficult to hold the shape of the kozhukattai.
- Giving it a run in mixer helps for easy binding of the kozhukattai.
Enjoy the healthy, less oil and flavourful, diabetic friendly wheat rava upma kozhukattai!
