Wheat rava upma kozhukattai recipe | Wheat rava recipes

September 4, 2016 by Raks Anand 6 Comments /

wheat-rava-recipesWheat rava or godhumai rava upma kozhukattai is made similar to regular upma kozhukattai, can be made for breakfast or dinner. I found a reason to post this as it is Vinayagar chaturthi tomorrow. This is diabetic friendly kozhukattai. As I posted all sweet versions, thought of making this one for a change. For regular rice upma kozhukattai, we add some dal, either toor dal or moong dal, but this one just really simple with the dal only used in tempering. Usually you would have made godhumai rava upma, do try this simple variety kozhukattai. I have used little coconut for extra flavour.wheat-rava-upma-kozhukattai

Wheat rava upma kozhukattai recipe

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Snacks
Prep Time: 10 mins  |  Cook time: 20 mins   |  Makes: 12

Ingredients

Wheat rava – 1/2 cup

Grated coconut – 2 tbsp

Water – 1 & 1/2 cup

Salt – As needed

To Temper

Oil – 1 tsp

Mustard – 1/2 tsp

Urad dal – 1 tsp

Chana dal – 2 tsp

Red chilli – 1

Ginger, chopped – 1/2 tsp

Asafoetida – A pinch

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Method

  1. Give the wheat rava few pulses in a mixer, without powdering it too much. Heat a kadai with oil. Temper with the items given under ‘To temper’ table.
  2. 1-tadka

  3. Add water and salt, bring to boil. Add wheat rava and coconut.
  4. 2-cook

  5. Mix well and cook covered in medium flame for 5-8 mins. Mix in between to avoid burning.
  6. 3-cooked

  7. Once all the water absorbed and almost cooked, transfer to a plate. Once warm to handle, shape it to balls. Grease your hands with sesame oil or coconut oil each time.
  8. 4-shape

  9. Arrange in a greased idli plate and steam for 5-8 minutes.
  10. 5-cooked

Notes

  • Do not use more oil as it would make it difficult to hold the shape of the kozhukattai.
  • Giving it a run in  mixer helps for easy binding of the kozhukattai.

Enjoy the healthy, less oil and flavourful, diabetic friendly wheat rava upma kozhukattai!
