Masala toast recipe

Masala toast is an open toast with a masala topping made with vegetables like carrot, capsicum, onion and tomato and spices. It is very simple to prepare and a great option for the kids snack.

  • 10 Bread slice
  • 1 Carrot large
  • ½ capsicum
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Tomato
  • ¼ cup Coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 Green chilli
  • ½ teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 sp Garam masala powder
  • ½ teaspoon Cumin seeds powder roasted
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric
  • Salt – As needed
  • Sugar – a pinch optional


  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp


  • Heat a pan with oil and splutter mustard followed by cumin seeds. Add finely chopped green chilli and onion.
  • fry till onion turns soft. Add finely chopped tomato, capsicum and finely grated carrot. Add required salt.
  • fry in medium flame until the tomato turns soft (roughly 2 mins). Add red chilli powder, cumin seeds powder, garam masala powder, turmeric and coriander leaves.
  • Continue cooking for another two mins until the masala turns flavourful. To serve, heat a pan and toast bread slice with butter.
  • Toast bread until crisp and golden on both sides in medium flame. Press gently with spatula for even browning.
  • Spread 2 tablespoon of the prepared masala in top of the bread slice and serve.



  • Garam masala lends the main flavour to the masala, so add more, you can add up to 1 & ½ tsp.
  • Whatever vegetable you use, make sure to finely chop or grate the vegetables. This enables to get cooked easily as well as for a thick well blended masala.
