Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: Indian, South Indian
Servings: 12 Kozhukattai

  • ½ cup Wheat rava
  • 2 tablespoon Grated coconut
  • 1.5 cup Water
  • Salt – As needed

To Temper

  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Urad dal
  • 2 teaspoon Chana dal
  • 1 Red chilli
  • ½ teaspoon Ginger chopped
  • Pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 Curry leaves sprig

  • Give the wheat rava few pulses in a mixer, without powdering it too much.
  • Heat a kadai with oil. Temper with the items given under ‘To temper’ table.
  • Add water and salt, bring to boil. Add wheat rava and coconut.
  • Mix well and cook covered in medium flame for 5-8 mins. Mix in between to avoid burning.
  • Once all the water absorbed and almost cooked, transfer to a plate.
  • Once warm to handle, shape it to balls. Grease your hands with sesame oil or coconut oil each time.
  • Arrange in a greased idli plate and steam for 5-8 minutes.

  • Do not use more oil as it would make it difficult to hold the shape of the kozhukattai.
  • Giving it a run in  mixer helps for easy binding of the kozhukattai.
